The Clutch!

Like I said before, parties are hard. And you don't wanna completely displace people from their having just to take a picture for some unknown blog that you're doing for your own fun. In any case I tried with this young lady to capture her amongst the people. Maybe not the best idea, but you can still see her look. A sizzling look at that! Check out the huge clutch bag! WOW! One of my favourite looks, possibly. Okay, so maybe I have said this too many times this month. But you have to admit she's rocking it.

P.S. I took these last three posts at the Wordsworth performance on Saturday, at Roka. There were so many other people I wanted to capture but just didn't get the chance to. It was like I had found some hidden treasure. Hip hop heads can really express themselves through clothing, not just through words.

All Stars

You know, it's really hard to take pictures of people in parties, especially when they are packed. I was trying to get a full head - to - toe shot of these guys but there wasn't enough space for me to move back. In any case, I'm digging the guy on the left's cardigan, and the fact that he's buttoned it in such a way that you can see the print on his t - shirt (which by the by is a tres funky print). The leather cuff on his right arm is tight male accessory. Then his boy's blazer and 'I :-)(smiley face) Jzi' t-shirt is a simple but cool look. Their sneakers (I think they're both wearing all stars) are a definite yes in my books, especially as a finishing touch to their looks.

Too Legit

She caught my eye because of the harem pants. Actually wanted the picture of her alone but I guess it's a good thing because I like her man's Creative Rec sneakers. The wrap on her head is also quite cool.

Roka Scenery

So my camera opted to get a lil' drunk on this one but you can still see why I dig this look. It's a simple jeans and tee thing, but she spices it up with the beautiful scarf and hot waist coat. I like the cut of the jeans as well, they have a slight wide - leg thing to them.

Autumn Shift

I like this shift dress. Considering we're in autumn, the colours work for the season. The dress is simple yet striking, and the red bag is nice finish to the ensemble. Funny thing is what she said to me before she took the picture, that is that everyone was on some it looks like something my mother would wear back in the day, and that I was the first one to actually appreciate it. Hey, vintage clothing, and vintage inspired clothing works for me.

Proportions, Layers, Length

I like the proportions in this outfit. One thing I think is hard for people to pull off is layers of different lengths, but the short jacket and longer vest here is cool. But the best part about this outfit is the coloured dots on the vest that look like they're leading out from the jacket. A subtle but awesome detail.

Rule Breaker

So those of you who pay attention, may be asking yourself, 'But wait, didn't she say she was looking at youth fashion?’ Yes, yes, this is true, but if you'd seen how this guy was rocking this look, you'd wanna take a picture of him too. So, I'm all about contradictions, old mixed with new, bargain buys mixed with expensive gifts, and causal laid over formal looks. Following on from the contradictions, I am a sucker for clothing rule breakers who get it right. So let’s take a look at this outfit, he is wearing a t-shirt (not a collared shirt), and white dirty sneakers with a suit. The contradiction here exists in the fact that he's mixed a usually formal garment (that is the suit) with two very casual items (t-shirt and dirty sneakers). The causal items vs. formal thing is a rule breaker in itself, but then he takes it further by totally disregarding the rules by wearing dirty sneakers (A man after my own heart). He really rocked this look. I'm thinking this might become one of my favourites too...

Femininity

I initially took this picture because of her cute green shoes. But now looking at the picture again, her whole outfit is pretty cute. Not something I would wear personally but works on her. There's a nice femininity about it, especially including the white beads/pearls.

Hey, It's Thursday!

I'm liking the shirt. I like the fact that he was even brave enough to rock it, which is something that most young people in this city are afraid to do. Think it's cool that he's rocking it like 'Hey, it's Thursday (any old day), and I just need something, anything to wear', but really it looks tight to me. Tight, tight, tight!

The Skinny on Guys

If memory serves me correct (which it rarely does) this guy is an artist (irrelevant, maybe, but think I'll find time, someday, to write an entry about the link between art and fashion). Any who, a friend of mine and I were having a discussion about guys who wear skinny jeans, while volunteering at the Jo'burg Art Fair, and everyday, while on the job, we would see this guy. We came to the conclusion that some guys know how to pull it off (I guess, like most things, some people know hot to rock it, some don't), and, as a result, we came to the verdict that this guy formed part of that 'some – guys – who – know – how – to – pull – it - off'. I missed a photo op on one of the days when I think he rocked the skinny pants the best: with a baby blue collared shirt (just as an aside, it wasn't tucked in). Yeah, but this look above will do to emphasise our point.

Floor Party

I think this is gonna be one of my favourites. These boots have got me having funny dreams. I like the idea of the neutral tones broken with the bright red. That and the whole ensemble has that symphony I've spoken about before. I could write a whole essay on this outfit and why it absolutely works for me, but I don't want to strip the ensemble of it's appeal... Just bask in the splendour...

Jo'Burg Art Fair

Thanks to my girl, Amy, we were able to capture these ladies at the Jo'burg Art Fair after party. They both look so cute. Cute red and white striped dress, and the lady on the left, has taken a dash of funk with an ounce of cute. The orange bag is too cool.

Machere

I acquired these photos from iFashion, because I had to show my favourites from Machere's show at the Audi Jo'burg Fashion Week.

Fashion Week, Maybe?

This was my attempt at going to Audi Jo'burg Fashion Week. Unfortunately my camera battery decided it had done too much work, and so it died before I even got to take pictures of the actual show and people attending the show. I guess you can just take my word for it though that Machere's show was amazing, in fact I think she's gonna be one of South Africa's next best designers. Her use of fabrication, the common thread in all her designs, you could see she did research to come up with this range and then put work into it. Machere is now my favourite South African designer.

Symphony

She was just too cute. My camera was giving me issues and she offered to take a picture of the dress for me and email it to me. But I guess I hadn't explained clearly enough before but for me it was the whole ensemble that I wanted to capture. Anyone can put on a dress they bought from whatever store, but she owned this one, she made it her own. From the shoes, to the bag, to the earrings, to the cute pixie inspired haircut, dude, no one else can put it together the way you do. What I love most, is yeah she may have thought about the ensemble, but her style is reflected in the way she composed it (I like the use of the word compose, like the outfit is a sort of symphony, because all these items work harmoniously together).

Sports turned Chic

The bag is way too cool. It's a Puma bag, but not your average sports bag. It's sports turned chic. Tres chic. Nice!

Sauve and Sophisticated

It's rare to find a young person dressed so well and sophisticated. Type of look you would find on the Sartorialist.
